What is "Talavera" style?
Talavera is a type of colorful, tin-glazed earthenware pottery originally from Spain, later perfected in Mexico, known for its intricate hand-painted designs and milky white glaze. Spanish artisans brought the tradition to Mexico in the 16th century. The regions of Puebla and Tlaxcala became centers of Talavera production due to their rich clay deposits and skilled craftsmanship
Where do the tiles come from?
The tiles are imported from sources in Mexico. The material is derived of the clay in the region. They are hand cut and shaped, images applied, kilned and polished before they get shipped to my shop in Northeastern Ohio.
How do you make the frames for the mirrors?
All backboards are 1/4" plywood sheeting. Framing material is typically made up of hardwoods such as American Walnut, Curly Maple, Black Limba, Cherry, Sapele and Honey Locust. Western Red Cedar is sometimes used. Most of the material is acquired from repurposed items such as furniture, architectural renovation or other refuse.
